NTX Mesh is a community group building a network of solar-powered Meshtastic and MeshCore radios across DFW and the greater North Texas area — a city-wide text messaging system that works with no power, no cell towers, and no internet.
Decentralized / Off-Grid / Solar-Powered
Two Meshes, One Community
Our members deploy and support both major open-source mesh firmwares — Meshtastic and MeshCore. Whichever you choose, you're part of the same North Texas community, and plenty of operators run both. We aim to share what we learn and keep both networks healthy across DFW.
Meshtastic
The most widely adopted open mesh firmware — a polished app ecosystem, easy onboarding, and a huge selection of supported devices.
MeshCore
A newer, lightweight firmware with efficient multi-hop routing and a growing repeater footprint across North Texas.
How It Works
Get a Radio
LoRa devices that run Meshtastic or MeshCore start around $30. Check out our recommended devices to get started.
Flash & Configure
Install Meshtastic or MeshCore firmware and apply our local presets. It only takes a few minutes with our setup guide.
Start Messaging
Pair your radio to the Meshtastic or MeshCore app over Bluetooth and you're on the mesh — anywhere within range.
What We Do
NTX Mesh is a community-built mesh network in North Texas running both Meshtastic and MeshCore. It acts like a city-wide text messaging system — public or private — that works without cell towers, the internet, or grid power. All you need is an inexpensive mesh radio to reach others in range. Our network is built for emergency preparedness, community building, and resilient communication.
Off-Grid & Solar
Solar-powered repeaters keep the network running 24/7 — no grid power, no internet, no monthly bill.
Community Owned
Built and maintained by local volunteers across DFW. No corporations, no subscriptions, no gatekeepers.
Public & Private
Chat with the whole community on the public channel, or talk privately with friends and family on your own encrypted channel.
Modem Presets
Note: NTX Mesh runs both Meshtastic and MeshCore, and some counties use modem presets other than the defaults (such as Meshtastic's Long_Fast) due to the localized mesh. Check the Preset Map by County and use the recommended settings for your firmware before configuring your device.
Three Ways to Plug In
These are three separate things — do any or all, in any order. New here? Start with Discord.
Join the Discord
Where the community actually talks — coordinate meetups, share builds, troubleshoot gear, and get help. It's the heart of NTX Mesh and the best place to start.
Get on the Mesh
Set up a Meshtastic or MeshCore radio and start sending messages over LoRa — no power, internet, or cell service required.
